Herbs and their effects
1. Bear's garlic Allium ursinum
- Every spring brings new hope for sunshine and warmth. Inwardly, we are happy and elated again, we rejoice at the first green and the jubilation of the bird life and feel it all wholeheartedly as a valid gift from our Creator.
- Wild garlic has a very beneficial effect on the gastrointestinal system. It is ideal for acute and chronic diarrhea, even if this is accompanied by gas formation and colic, as well as for constipation, if this is due to internal cramping or relaxation of the intestines.
- As a seasoning: Fresh wild garlic leaves are chopped like chives or parsley and sprinkled on breads, soups, sauces, salads and meat dishes.
2. Stinging nettle Urtica dioica
- Nettle is our best blood-purifying and blood-forming medicinal plant. As it also has a positive effect on the pancreas, nettle tea lowers blood sugar levels.
- In folk medicine, nettle tea is suggested as a week-long drinking cure for liver and gallbladder disorders, spleen diseases, even spleen tumors, mucus in the stomach and respiratory organs, stomach cramps and ulcers, intestinal ulcers and lung diseases.
- Foot baths: A heaped double handful of well-washed, brushed roots and fresh nettle (stems and leaves) are steeped overnight in 5 liters of water and heated to boiling the next day. As warm as you can tolerate, soak your feet in it for 20 minutes. The nettles remain in the water during the footbath. This foot bath can be used two or three times, once warmed up again.
3. Lady's mantle Alchemilla vulgaris
- Commonly known as lady's mantle, lady's aid, lady's mantle, Lady's mantle, Mother of God's mantle, dewleaf mantle, little key, tearful mantle or lady's smock, it grows mainly on the edges of forests and paths, slopes and damp meadows at higher altitudes and in mountainous regions.
- Not only does lady's mantle have a beneficial effect on menstrual disorders, white discharge, abdominal pain and ailments during the menopause, it also helps to have a positive influence on periods during the onset of puberty in combination with pungency.
- Bath additive: For a full bath, take 200 g of dried herbs or a few double hands of fresh herbs, put them in a bucket of cold water overnight, heat everything up the next day and add the liquid to the bath water.
4. St. John's wort Hypericum perforatum
- St. John's wort is used for nerve injuries and nervous complaints of all kinds, for impact injuries and also for the consequences of excessive lifting. However, it is also an excellent remedy for diarrhea.
- Speech disorders, restless sleep, hysterical fits, night-walking are cured with St. John's wort, as are bedwetting and depression.
- St. John's wort tincture: Two handfuls of flowers picked in the sun are added to 1 liter of brandy and the bottle is left in the sun or warmth for three weeks.
5. Chamomile Matricaria chamomilla
- It is no exaggeration to cite camomile as a 'cure-all', especially for small children. Chamomile tea should always be given to children, especially for cramps and abdominal pain.
- It helps with flatulence, diarrhea, rashes, stomach ailments and constipation, menstrual disorders, absence of menstruation and other abdominal complaints, insomnia, epididymitis, fever, sores and toothache.
- Herbal pillow : A linen bag is filled with dried chamomile flowers and wrapped around the body.
6. Sage Salvia officinalis
- Sage tea, drunk frequently, strengthens the whole body, prevents strokes and has a very beneficial effect on paralysis.
- Externally, sage tea is particularly recommended for all tonsillitis, throat problems, suppuration of the teeth, inflammation of the throat and oral cavity.
- Tea infusion: 1 teaspoon of herbs to 1/4 liter of water, brew, allow to infuse briefly. Enjoy!
7. Horsetail Equisetum arvense
- Common name - field horsetail. In folk medicine, this medicinal plant was already highly praised in ancient times, especially for its hemostatic power and its success in treating the most serious kidney and bladder diseases. Nevertheless, it has fallen into oblivion over the course of time.
- It should not be forgotten that horsetail is one of the best lung remedies for both chronic bronchitis and pulmonary tuberculosis.
- Tincture: 10 g of fresh horsetail is mixed with 50 g of real grain brandy. Leave to stand in the sun or heat for 14 days. Shake daily!
